 My Ouija Board Story
« Thread Started on May 30, 2007, 4:32pm »

I was about 12 or 13 when I was sleeping over at my cousin's house. Her friend was sleeping over too, she brought the Ouija board. It was the first time I ever saw one. Part of me thought I should tell them not to play with it but I didn't. I was to scared to put my hands on the thing. I sat there with a pen and paper and wrote everything down. ( I read later that is actully how you are suppost to do it, have two people play and one write it all down) First we figured out who we would try to talk to. My cousin, Missy wanted to talk to her Grandma. Missy's Grandma died when she was a baby so she didn't know too much about her. They asked if they were talking to her and it said yes. Then asked how she died, it said heart attack. Missy called her mom and asked how she died sure enough it was from a heart attack. Then Missy asked if it was ok to leave the candle lit and it said no. A few minutes later the candle fell off of the table and on to the floor! I can't remember too much of what we asked after that. I just remember thinking "This is not a good idea" I will ask Missy if she remembers anything else. If she does I will post it.

Hi Shawna,

I've never had any personal experience with an ouija board, I'm like you I was always too chicken. I've never really heard anyone say that using an ouija board was a good thing. Most people say that you should leave them alone. Maybe someone else can tell us a bit more about them, I always thought it was interesting too, even if I was too scared to use one! AmyG

Hi ladies,

Let me tell you that Ouija boards are dangerous if not used properly. I think if anyone just plays with one, and they think it is a game, they are DEAD wrong. If you haven't yet looked at Kimberly's site on True-Ghost-Stories ( see my links ) please do. She has some fascinating stories from readers about Ouija board experiences. And, if kids play with it, they can get into real trouble too. So, watch them. I actually busted mine up and through mine in the trash after one bad experience. PLEASE be careful and learn to use it correctly. It can be harmful.

If anyone has specific stories on the Ouija Board, please share it with us.

Hi Ron,
I would love to hear the experience you had with the ouija board if you want to tell it.

Shawna,

OK, you asked, here goes....My original experience with the Ouija Board began in the mid 60s, when I was a senior in high school. Yes, they have had the board around that long ago?? Anyway, I had a crush on my best friend's sister. She was only a year behind us, but she was "hot." So, one evening when I was at her family's house swimming, she invited me and three of her girlfriends into their garage, where she pulled out this board game. Of course I had never heard of it and had no idea what it could do. Anyway, willing to show off, I was the first to ask it a question. However, it was likely something stupid, because I remember thinking even then how dumb this game was. I recall the planchet moving all around and I knew it wasn't doing it on its own. It was obvious that those with their finger on it was moving it to make whatever answer they wanted. After everyone tried to ask it questions, we were about to give up, when one girl asked it one of those "NO-NO" questions. You know, those that you shouldn't ask? Questions you REALLY don't want answers to. Things like when will I die? When will my parents die? Those kind of questions. Anyway, I think she asked, who at the board would be the first person to get married. Shocked, the planchet spelled out my full, complete name. Well, of course my ego led me to believe it was the friend's sister pushing it to spell out my name. I was excited, thinking she might have an interest in me. Then, not to be upstaged, I stupidly asked it who would be the first person in the room to die? Well, to my surprise it spelled out my best friend's name. ( The guy whose sister I was trying to impress. ) Immediately, I thought how terrible of her to spell out her own brother's name. But, only being a game and because she was so darn cute, I just brushed it off. Then someone asked the board's "ghost" what its name was. It rapidly spelled out Charlie. My next question was when would I be drafted? ( the draft was a big concern as the Vietnam War was building up ) It instantly said, I wouldn't be. That of course was BS as evey able bodied young man then was being drafted. However, I again just went along with the answers, making stupid remarks at each response. Then, after the very next question, the answer that came back was it spelling out my first name. It wouldn't answers any more of the girl's questions. Of course, my ego was high as I assumed my friends sister or one of the other girls was playing with it. However, the three girls finally joined together and told me the board only wanted to talk to me. So, not to be an ass, I played along. I think my next question was kind of like when will I die? The board ( Charlie) answered when you become a pilot. I asked, for clarification, and it kept saying NO. I then asked if I am not drafted will I be in the military, it answered that was up to me. I eventually told the girls, this was a stupid game and we finally ended it. However, 4 years later when I got out of college, I enlisted in the Army and signed up to be a helicopter pilot. By now the war in Nam was in full swing and everyone tried to talk me out of it. But, who were they? I felt as though I was invincible. Anyway, a few months later I graduated from flight school and was sleeping the night before I was to receive my orders. That night ( in a dream ) my grandfather who died when I was about 12 years old appeared to me. I remember the dream right now as if it just happened today. In my dream he stuck his finger right in my face. He was so angry at me, I recall how red his face was and I thought he would explode from being so mad at me. He said, "d**n it kid, what did I tell you about not becoming a pilot?" At that moment the Ouija Board encounter at my frind's house flashed across my memory. And, the warning not to be a pilot. Well, guess what? My grandfather's name was Charles. Charlie to his friends. So, I remembered the warning and only a week earlier I had learned my best friend ( the girls brother ) had just been killed. And, as the board said he would be the first to die. So, I instantly went from invincible to doomed. I remember waking up in a cold sweat. I couldn't go back to sleep. Eventually the morning came and I was totally unable to shake the dream. Later that morning I was standing in line to get my orders to go to Nam. Then I heard my named called out somewhere over the PA system. It instructed me to report to a room number. I did, and there I met a chaplain and a Red Cross worker. Ironically, my own father had died about the time I was having my dream. I was ordered to immediately head home on an emergency leave. As an only child, my dad was dead and my mother was ill. Therefore, I had to leave that very afternoon. New orders superceeded the ones sending me to war. I went home. A month later personal circumstances required me to apply for and receive a hardship discharge. Now, my dad who was 44 years old at the time was also named Charles, and know by his friends as Charlie. So, did he die to save me? Who knows? And, it is something I have wondered about ever since. If I hadn't of gone into flying, might he still be alive? Also, the girl I was trying to impress? She too died in Nam. She was a nurse. And, she was named by Charlie during that board game as someone who would also die? Was it just a game? Was it real?

I had 2 other instances where I was involved in a Ouija Board game. In both cases I was not a party to the board activity, just an observer. The first instance was with a group that heard the story I just told you and they were believers and a couple even claimed to know what to properly do. In any case, they asked questions and got a variety of answers. However, as the game was going on the ghost running the board got more angry and profane with every question and answer. And, if you knew these people you would know that they didn't talk that way. So, I feared something was bad, and suggested they close it down. However every time the group tried to sign off, the planchet would never say good-bye. They eventually just closed the board and put it away. And, two nights later they began having terrible trouble. Something evil seemed to be in the house. Things then went from bad to worse and the wife and girl child claimed to be physically attacked in their sleep. Right after the child had problems, the entire family just moved out. Then, maybe a year or so later I was at a party and the host brought out the Ouija Board, and again I told them the two stories I just mentioned. They were so excited about the possibility that it was real they all wanted to play. Again, I sensed something bad as the game progressed on and things appeared to be guided in the wrong direction. Then, two nights later their house burnt down while they were out at dinner. I cannot say for sure that any of it was real, or caused by the Ouija Board, but I certainly think it was. And, as for me, I will never play with a Ouija Board again. What do you think?

Wow Ron, your first story gave me goosebumps! I don't even know what to say. Thank you for sharing your story with me. I have not used the Ouija Board since the time with my cousin and I was really thinking about getting one. My ex's mother, whom I was close with killed herself last year and I thought maybe I would be able to talk to her. I know they are bad and horriable things can happen, but I am fasinated by it. The funny thing is I was raised in a very strong Christian family so this should be the furthest thing from my mind. Ever since I found Kimberly's site I want to learn more and more. I even want to do one of those ghost tours Amy was talking about. Thanks again for sharing!

Hi Shawna,

I can only tell you what I observed. However, I do not know how good the board would be for reaching a specific loved one. I think what one normally gets is whatever is close by, or a demonic entity just waiting for some unsuspecting group to contact it. To actually make contact with a loved one, I think is rare. My experience was unusual. When you read about all the bad things people encounter, you know whatever the entity was, was definitely not a loved one, because an entity that knows you would not do the terrible things that normally happen from those board sessions. I just urge you to be smart and careful if you "play" with one. BE SURE TO PROPERLY CLOSE THE SESSION AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE, INVITE IT IN.

Thanks Amy,
Well last night my friend Brian came over. I told him that I was gonna get a Ouija Board. He told me that when his mom was about 16 or 17 her and her friend played with one in her bedroom. His mom lived there after her parents passed away, and later had Brian and his brother. Brian used to sleep in that room and he told me that is was always cold no matter what time of year it is. He also would hear someone call his name and would yell what and no one was calling him. Then his brother sayed in the room and when he was sleeping and he felt the blankets move off the bed. So I am thinking if I do decide to get one today I don't think it is a good idea to play with it in my house. Its so funny because when I am at my desk at work and I read all this stuff I am so into it. Then I go home and when get gets dark I'm a big chicken! I will let you guys know what I decided to do.

Shawna,

You are not "chicken" you are being smart. There is nothing wrong with being careful and smart. However, if you do it, I think your house sounds perfect. You know there are entities there and they do not seem to be evil or harmful. Best kind......

If you do it there or where ever, just be careful and do not invite anything into your group, and don't forget to close the game out safely. I would say the more participants the better. You cannnot do it with just yourself, and Brian might make a good conductor to who or what may be there. 2 more players would be better. have fun and be sure to report back to us how it went. On the other side, if you decided it isn't safe, then DO NOT DO IT.

Hi everyone,
So last night I went out and bought a Ouija Board. I had three friends come over to play with it. It is one of those glow in the dark ones so they convinced me to turn off all the lights. Now I don't know if my friends were messing with me because they were goofing off most of the time so I couldn't tell if they were moving it. It didn't really do to much we asked if there were any spirts around my house and it said yes but again I don't know if it was my friends. After awhile they thought it was me moving it so that made me think maybe it wasn't them. We couldn't really get it to answer, we would ask it what it's name was and it would not answer. But the part that really scared me was, I was playing with my friend Kyle and we had our eyes closed and I was really trying to focus and I felt the thing move it was moving all over the board and my fingers were hardly touching it. I looked up and Kyle took his hands off and I was playing by myself! So I kind of freaked out a little because I know you are NOT suppost to play alone. I was really scared it took everything in me not to cry. Then Kyle promised he would keep his fingers on it. But it wasn't moving. So I think next time I need to play with someone a little more serious about it. Its ok to keep it in my house right? I tryed to get one of my friends to take it home but they wouldn't. Maybe I will have better luck next time.

Shawna,
Sounds like you had fun. That is good. However, the more you do it the more addicted you will become. I don't know why but the idea of being able to contact something is a real magnet to most people. What I think would be interesting is to research the history of the Ouija Board. Maybe I will do that? Or, if anyone has that answer already, please post it here.
Keep having fun, but PLEASE be careful. It isn't something to take lightly.

Shawna,

I think it is common not to get something every time you use it. I don't use the board myself anymore, but when I did, most attempts didn't result in any activity. It is those in between times when the board goes wild and is very active that everyone looks forward to. I do believe the time of day/night is important. Late night is likely better than say noon. I wouldn't give up so quickly. However, I worry too that you might run into something even worse and not know how to close the board or some how invite it into your home. Maybe someone else has a better take on frequency vs. results?

Hi everyone,

So since I bought my ouija board a few stange things happened. I freaked myself out and put the board downstairs in my storage locker! Two nights ago at about 3 in the morning my power was out. I was not even raining outside. The next morning I called my mom and asked if her's went out (she lives very close) and of course her power never went out. Then last night I went in my room to go to bed, I have to sleep with the tv on, and as soon as I laid down the cable went out and was all snowy. I went and checked my son's TV and it was working fine. So this morning before work I put the board in my storage locker. I'm starting to think this was a bad idea.

Shawna,
You worry me. I told you to be careful and close the board out properly when you were done. Did you? It sounds like maybe you didn't. Or you somehow invited something in. I hope I am wrong about that. But please don't play with it again until you can decide if these events are normal problems or not so normal. I know you are curious, and I am too, but there is too many documented stories to just pretend this thing is a game. You are a smart woman, so for the sake of your child's, stop until these activities can be figured out.

Hi shawna,

I recently had some problems with some 'things' that were bothering me. Kimberly sent me a post under 'out of body experiences' in 'astral travel' that really helped me. It's all about praying for protection and visualizing yourself, your house and everything and everyone in and outside of your house being protected and shielded. Check out those posts, please. They really helped me, since I have been practicing this, I haven't been bothered at all. Stay safe, AmyG

Thanks guys!
So far my weekend was fine nothing strange happend. I think I just freaked myself out. Every time we played with it I thought I closed it. All you do it move the thing to good bye right? I asked my neighbor if her power went out and she said it was the whole building, but that doesn't explain the TV. I'm going to keep it in my storage locker so it's not in my apartment.

Shawna,

I know you like your game, but things are not going to get better with it. Once you open a gateway like that, you could invite the BAD along with the good. You won't know if it is bad or good until it is too late. If you ever decide to get rid of your board, don't burn it in your barbeque, that won't end your problems. I have a feeling that it might come to that. Give it to a Priest or someone that can get rid of it properly.

Hi All,

I just returned from a business trip in a small community called Woodstock in Vermont. It is a very old community and you can read one adventure I had at an old cemetry under our first discussion topic above. However, the same old couple that took me to the cemetry, on the drive back told me about a group that use to meet every Saturday night at one person's house in town that lived in the area's oldest home to play with the Ouija Board. They claimed the home was over 300 years old. ( I have no idea if any of what I am going to relate is true or not, but it was interesting.) They said the average age of the participants was well into their sixties and they did this every Saturday for many years. It seems they would take turns asking specific questions. Always claiming to make some sort of contact with something. Everyone would then leave, feeling they had contacted a departed sole. However, one night things got really carried away. The home's owner appeared to become posessed. He spoke in different languages and cursed everyone there in English. He became so mean and his language got so bad, all of his guests left. He then scared his wife so bad she fled to her sister's home and hide from him. About an hour later everyone heard sirens and followed the trucks to this man's home. The entire house burnt to the ground, with him in it. No one ever found the source of the fire and his death was ruled a suicide. Guess who the man was? ANSWER- a local minister. So, what do you think? I honestly had no opinion. I left Saturday and had no time to verify the story. But, who knows? The Ouija is a dangerous thing to play with, that is for sure.

Ron, that is a great story they told and if it is true it certainly proves that the Ouija board is very dangerous! I've read similar stories where people had began cursing and speaking in strange languages after using the Ouija. Too scary for me I'm afraid! AmyG

My experiences with the board were rather mundane as a child, and of course as kids do, I fooled around too much while playing, so I directly never experienced anything really unusual. I do have friends, however who have had some wierd experiences after using the board.
My opinion on the board is that it is a very dangerous thing. The reason I think this way is because when we use the board, we envite trouble into our lives, and I mean literally envite. In a previous post I mentioned my belief that there is some sort of a control system in place that limits how much contact ghosties and demons have with us. This control system (whatever it is) does not apply if we give a spirit or a demon an invitation to come into our lives. The board is an open invitation, or a blank check for any strange critter to openly enter our lives and create whatever chaos it wishes. The board itself is not the culprit, the problem lies with the board users mental and emotional willingness to allow spirits to directly contact us. We, as fleshies can have spirits and demons come to us and contact us directly by simply calling them and enviting them to come to us. This is also a very dangerous thing to do, and if anyone reading this is thinking that they want to try this, I strongly advise against it. (Demons will disguise themselves as friendlies and you will be very sorry to find out the hard way that I am telling the truth).
Suggested reading on this subject is a book written in the 70's called "Something About Phillip". It is a well documented case of a group of paranormal researchers in Toronto who actually created a ghost called Phillip and interacted with him on a regular basis, even on a live television program on national tv. it is very interesting reading.
